Well, this patch has one main objective, and is making the game much more enjoyable on the gameplay side. No new monsters, no hard mode, just some tweaks to avoid mass grinding and to have a fairly challenging game in front of us in every moment. Well, to put it briefly, Secret of Evermore is an outstanding game, but I personally have a special concern with it, and is the broken difficulty variation it has. This patch solves that with some stats tweaks, both on monster and character side, just enough to try to keep a fairly nice challenge through all the game. Is NOT a hard difficulty patch, it just evens the difficulty, trying to make all the game just as challenging as the beginning. The game starts as a challenging game, the two first bosses are quite long and challenging, if you don't pay enough attention, normal monsters could drop boy's hit points in five/six hits. Once you get to the second "world", you will find that if you keep your armor up to date, you get the same range of damage than in the previous world (basically about 20 damage average), but you get more HP and by that point, probably your dog has enough defense to be consistently getting 1 or 0 damage from most enemies. His defense growth is totally broken, btw. On the third world, things get to an absurd point in with you are getting 5 points from all enemies, and 20 from most bosses. That with 300+ HP sound as it is: zero difficulty. Shape Shifters and Verminator are the only challenging ones of all monsters/bosses you will encounter. Lastly on the last world, at last you are getting some damage from a few monsters. Your dog is totally immune to physical hits from the second world, I think the final boss and death spiders are the only ones that are able to touch him for more than 0-1 HP damage. A annoying issue about the weapons, if that you get a new sword, you have to level it from zero, even if you have your previous sword(s) maxed. Many people finish the game with tier 1 L3 weapons. To help you getting the more powerful versions of a weapon, every 4 kills with a weapon type (sword, axe or spear) will hiddenly level all weapons of the same type. This will lessen the grind needed to keep level 3 weapons through the game by A LOT. Much like weapons, alchemy spells suffer from the same problem, as you get new spells, you have to level them from scratch. This usually prevent you from using the new Lance spell, because you have your mighty Crush/Fireball leveled to level 4. I deal with this with a shared magic exp, that you will get some free exp from te use of spells of the same type, so the groups are: Physical Attack Spells, Elemental Attack Spells, Healing Spells, Character boos spells and Miscellaneous spells. This encourage the player to change their spells to more powerful version,s because you may get your lance spell starting with level 2 and a half. |
